Chicago, Ill. — Illinois Tech women's Soccer shut out St. Norbert College with a decisive 3-0 victory at Stuart Field on Saturday, supported by 15 shots on goal.
Illinois Tech improved to 6-0-1 overall and 2-0-0 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play following their win. St. Norbert fell to 1-6-0 overall and 1-1-0 in conference play.
Illinois Tech took control early in the first half, with
Grace Yager opening the scoring in the 5th minute, assisted by
Kayla Smith. Just seven minutes later,
Kelly Hitchcock extended the lead to 2-0, capitalizing on an assist from
Tvesa Vathulya. The Scarlet Hawks maintained an aggressive stance with multiple shots on goal, while denying the Green Knights of any shots. The first half ended with Illinois Tech leading 2-0.
The second half began with the Scarlet Hawks maintaining their commanding presence on the field. Hitchcock extended the lead to 3-0 in the 49th minute with a goal assisted on a great ball-handling effort by
Taylor Hernandez. Despite numerous attempts by Illinois Tech, including shots from Smith and Yager, the St. Norbert goalkeeper, Taylor Wilson, made several crucial saves to prevent further scoring. Wilson finished with 12 saves for the match. The second half concluded with the scoreboard showing 3-0 in favor of Illinois Tech.
