Men's Basketball Falls To Hot-Shooting Marian On The Road

Fond du Lac, Wis. — The Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks faced a tough road game, falling to Marian (WI) 79-52 on Saturday at Sadoff Gym. The Sabres shot 49 percent from the field and 38 percent from three-point range.

Illinois Tech now holds a 5-13 overall record and is 3-8 in NACC play, while Marian (WI) stands at 9-8 overall and 6-5 in conference competition.

How It Happened

The game kicked off with Marian (WI) seizing an early lead, thanks to a three-pointer from Andrew Ayeni just 30 seconds in. Turnovers plagued Illinois Tech, with 13 in the first half alone, which the Sabres capitalized on, boosted by Alex Vassilakis' sharp three-point shooting. Despite efforts from Nicolas Ortiz, who battled in the paint for the Scarlet Hawks, Marian kept control. A late layup by Derek Lindert pushed Marian ahead 34-19 by halftime.

Marian expanded their lead in the second half, starting strong with a three-pointer from Derek Lindert, assisted by Harper Krolak, just seconds in. Lindert hit another three shortly after, further extending their advantage. Although Garrison Carter nailed a three-pointer for Illinois Tech at the 9:20 mark, the Sabres held their ground with contributions from multiple players, including a fast-break layup by Jazz Orozco at 11:14. Isaiah Dudley led Illinois Tech's efforts with key scores, including a layup and free throw at 2:12, but Marian's offense was relentless, sealing a 79-52 victory.
