Men's Volleyball Drops 2 At UW-Stevens Tri-Match

# UW-Stevens Point Tri-Match

Stevens Point, Wis. — Illinois Tech (0-4, 0-0 NACC) faced a challenging day at the UW-Stevens Point Tri-Match, suffering a sweep against #14 Loras (5-0, 0-0 CCIW) in three straight sets, 25-19, 25-20, 25-13, followed by a 3-1 loss to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (3-2, 0-0 DIII Independent) with set scores of 23-25, 18-25, 25-15, 21-25. 

How It Happened

Loras 3 - Illinois Tech 0
Illinois Tech started strong, trading points early on with contributions from Maximo Dowling and Paul Henderson, each delivering multiple kills assisted by Elijah Johnson. However, the Scarlet Hawks struggled with service and attack errors, allowing Loras to pull ahead. Loras took a 25-19 advantage in the first set, capped off by a block from Connor Jaral against Colten Farrell.

The second set saw Illinois Tech continue to battle, with Henderson's consistent scoring bringing the score to 6-6 before Loras capitalized on errors to extend their lead. Despite efforts from Tyson Haufschild and Jelani Kimoto, Loras's Brainerd III secured the final point to take the set 25-20.

In the third set, Loras surged ahead, aided by strong performances from Elijah Passey, who scored three consecutive points. Illinois Tech's Dowling attempted to respond with several kills, but Loras maintained control, winning the set 25-13, showcasing their dominance.

Against UW-Stevens Point, the first set was closely contested, marked by lead changes and strong kills from Henderson and Dowling. Illinois Tech held a slight edge until late in the set, but the Pointers closed it out at 25-23 with a critical kill from Hudson Dresen.

The Pointers secured the second set 25-18, with effective plays from their lineup, including multiple kills from Kyle Smith and Ethan Jetzer. Despite Dowling's attempts to rally, the Pointers maintained their advantage.

Illinois Tech responded strongly in the third set, recording 20 kills with a .465 hitting percentage, with Jelani Kimoto and Henderson providing key contributions. Aaron Hanny sealed the set for Illinois Tech at 25-15.

In the fourth set, both teams exchanged points frequently, with significant efforts from Peterson for the Pointers and Dowling for Illinois Tech. However, a decisive kill from Dresen closed the match for the Pointers at 25-21.
