Chicago, Ill — Illinois Tech Women's Basketball dropped a Saturday afternoon tilt, falling to Wisconsin Lutheran College with a score of 70-29. Illinois Tech is now 2-17 overall and 1-11 in NACC play, while Wisconsin Lutheran improves to 14-5 overall and 10-1 in the NACC.
How It Happened
After an prolonged start with no score on either side, Wisconsin Lutheran got going with Kenly Frey's fast-break layup at 6:30 and Maddie Ratzow's three-pointer at 1:55. The only points for Illinois Tech came from two free throws by
Halle Williams at 1:33. Wisconsin Lutheran closed the quarter with a jumper by Margie Stevens at the buzzer, securing a 19-2 lead.
Wisconsin Lutheran continued to build their lead in the second quarter with sharp shooting and strong defense. A three-pointer from Stevens at 7:59 and a defensive rebound kept their momentum going.
Berit Rusing got Illinois Tech on the board with a layup at 9:47, but the Scarlet Hawks couldn't sustain their offense, despite getting to the free throw line often. Late in the quarter, Madeline Leffel's three-pointer at 1:13 helped Wisconsin Lutheran hold a commanding 36-11 lead at halftime.
Stevens kicked off the 3rd period with a layup just 12 seconds in, assisted by Jayden Hill, and later added a jumper at 7:55. Abby Cole was solid at the free-throw line, hitting both shots at 5:42 to widen the gap.
Abigail Marino responded for Illinois Tech with a three-pointer at 5:27, assisted by
Amanda Wang, but Wisconsin Lutheran kept control. Leffel's three-pointer at 2:59 further increased their lead, and they ended the quarter firmly ahead.
In the final quarter, Wisconsin Lutheran sealed the victory.
Nerea Del Olmo Perez opened with a layup for Illinois Tech at 9:47, but Wisconsin Lutheran answered quickly with a layup by Abbie Cropsey, assisted by Courtney Park, at 9:22. Eleanor Wendorff nailed a three-pointer at 4:47 to push the score to 67-23. Illinois Tech managed some late points from Marino and
Chloe Churilla, but Wisconsin Lutheran's consistent scoring, including a layup by Mollie Murphy at 6:42, kept them in control. Jillian Scharlau's free throw finalized the score at 70-29.
