Chicago, Ill — Men's Soccer defeated Wis. Lutheran 1-0 on Saturday on Senior Day at Stuart Field. The Scarlet Hawks finished with a 15-4 shot advantage and allowed one shot on goal in the shutout. Before the game 11 graduating seniors were recognized in a pre game ceremony. The Scarlet Hawks are 7-4-2 overall and 4-2-2 in conference play. The Warriors are 2-9-1 overall and 1-5-1 in conference play.
How It Happened
After the Warriors put an early shot over the goal, the Scarlet Hawks created four chances from 5:10 to 7:44, with
Tomas Rebelatto and
Paul Balea forcing saves before additional attempts by
Adrian Cogolludo and Rebelatto. Illinois Tech broke through at 17:00, when
Jake Skiba scored off
Adrian Cogolludo's assist after Balea had put a shot on frame at 16:15. The hosts continued to press after the goal, adding a
Nick Skiba attempt, a 21:09 corner and shots from Balea and
Cal Graham through 25:47. The Warriors generated a late look when Rolando Colin put a shot on frame at 41:48, but
Colin Thomas made the save and Illinois Tech carried a 1-0 lead into halftime.
The Scarlet Hawks created the first meaningful second-half pressure, with Cogolludo taking a shot at 47:31 before Illinois Tech earned corner kicks at 47:38 and 48:22. Rebelatto put another attempt high at 53:09, and after Rafael Galindo missed right for the Warriors,
Junior Pineda-Alcala added a shot high at 57:23 with the score still 1-0. The middle of the half tightened into a foul-heavy stretch, with the Warriors called for four fouls from 56:56 to 65:00 and the Scarlet Hawks whistled twice by 66:55. Pineda-Alcala forced Morgan Determan into a save at 79:43, and after the Warriors' late shot and a series of yellow cards, Illinois Tech finished off the scoreless half to close out a 1-0 win.
