Chicago, Ill. - Leyna Yonehara of women's soccer and Tanay Sharma of men's tennis are the recipients of Scarlet Hawk of the Week honors for the week of September 28th.

Yonehara, a junior midfielder and Forensic Chemistry major from Geneva, Illinois, helped the Scarlet Hawks engineer three victories last week, including two in conference, as the Hawks extended their winning streak to a season-high eight games. Leyna's performance isn't measured by what you see in the box scores, as you won't find a goal, a shot, or an assist in the games she played last week. Rather, Leyna's value is her availability, her consistency, her ball-handling skills, her poise under pressure and her leadership as a team captain. While averaging 80 minutes a game last week, she patrolled the midfield - quarterbacking a Hawks' offense that scored 16 goals while playing a key part in a Hawks' defense that only allowed 2 goals. She's the engine that makes the Scarlet Hawks go.

Sharma, a sophomore Mechanical Engineering major from Ahmedabad, India, earned an A singles victory and an A doubles victory this past weekend at the ITA Men's Central Region Championships in Crawfordsville, Indiana. On Friday, Sharma, along with doubles partner Edvard Veres Bergsten, defeated Henry Ros and Philipp Wottgen of North Central College 8-3 in A doubles competition. He followed that up with a 6-3, 6-7(5-7),(11-9) A singles victory over Lake Forest's Felipe Moraes on Saturday. Additionally, on Friday Sharma battled #7 seed Jeremy Sieben of Wash U in a hard fought A singles loss 3-6, 6-7(6-8), forcing a second-set tiebreaker.
