Roy Powers Comeback For Women's Soccer As Hawks Advance to NACC Championship

Chicago, Ill. — First-year forward Olivia Roy scored two second half goals to help propel #1 seed Illinois Tech women's soccer to a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over #4 seed Edgewood University in NACC Semifinal play on a rainy and windy Tuesday night at Stuart Field. Roy scored off Grace Yager's assist at 83:32 for the eventual game-winning goal.

The Scarlet Hawks improved to 16-6-0, and will host #3 seed MSOE in Saturday's NACC Women's Soccer Championship game at 3:00 pm at Stuart Field. The Raiders also came from behind to defeat Dominican University 2-1 Tuesday afternoon in River Forest, Illinois. This will be the fourth consecutive meeting between Illinois Tech and MSOE in the conference championship game. Edgewood finishes their season 10-9-2 overall.

The Eagles moved in front at 29:57 when Riley Haertle converted a penalty kick, and the Eagles added two Kami Horn shots during a brief attacking spell after another corner. Illinois Tech generated late looks from Roy, Vathulya and Eva Narvarte, but the Eagles held the 1-0 lead at halftime.

The Scarlet Hawks kept the attack moving through three corners between 56:58 and 59:26, with Roy hitting the woodwork at 57:22 and Kaitlyn Walsh, Conway and Kayla Frassinelli adding attempts before the equalizer. Roy tied the match at 1-1 at 68:04 off Kayla Thomas' assist, and Illinois Tech continued to create chances, including Brown saves on Narvarte, Roy, Yager and Conway along with two more corners by 76:46.
