Mequon, Wis. — Illinois Tech Women's Basketball (2-20, 1-14 NACC) dropped a NACC road contest against Concordia University Wisconsin (7-15, 6-8 NACC) at the R. John Buuck Fieldhouse, falling 59-28.
How It Happened
The action kicked off with Isabela Gunderson putting Concordia Wisconsin on the board just 13 seconds in. Illinois Tech quickly countered with a layup from
Grace Goodnough, assisted by
Abigail Marino, leveling the score at 2-2. However, Concordia Wisconsin soon seized control, as Andrea Butterbrodt and Gunderson ignited a run that extended their lead. Kendall Weiler's fast break at 2:07 widened the gap, and despite Illinois Tech's push, including two late layups by Goodnough, the Falcons wrapped up the quarter ahead 17-8.
The second quarter saw Concordia Wisconsin extend their lead further through sharp shooting and tight defense. Butterbrodt initiated the scoring with a layup at 9:10 and added two free throws at 7:25. Gunderson drained a 3-pointer at 5:27, assisted by Butterbrodt. Goodnough sparked some offense for Illinois Tech with back-to-back layups, but the Falcons' defense limited the Scarlet Hawks to just five points, closing the half with a 32-13 lead.
The third quarter was more of the same, with Concordia Wisconsin capitalizing on Illinois Tech's turnovers to outscore them 15-7. Goodnough scored early at 9:33, but a series of turnovers stunted the Scarlet Hawks' momentum. Weiler's three at 5:58 and Gunderson's consistent play kept the Falcons in control. Even with
Amanda Wang's three-pointer providing a brief lift, Concordia Wisconsin's defense stood strong, ending the quarter up 47-20.
In the final quarter, Concordia Wisconsin sealed the deal with a 59-28 win, outscoring Illinois Tech 12-8. The Falcons took advantage of turnovers, with Weiler and Hannah Moesch making crucial steals. Alexa Schwartz added to the scoring with a jumper at 3:06 and a layup at 1:56. Despite offensive struggles, Illinois Tech saw a final jumper from Goodnough, assisted by
Miabella Spica, cut the lead momentarily with 14 seconds left.
