Chicago, Ill. - Philip Bentz of baseball and Pedro Caro-Accino Roca of men's tennis are the recipients of Scarlet Hawk of the Week honors for the week of March 2nd.
Bentz, a sophomore catcher and Civil Engineering major from Rapid City, South Dakota, delivered a standout offensive week for the Scarlet Hawks, helping power the lineup across four games against the Wooster Fighting Scots and Elmhurst Bluejays. Bentz started all four contests and finished the week hitting .500 (7-for-14) with 7 runs scored, 6 RBI, 2 triples, and 2 walks, while also going a perfect 2-for-2 on stolen base attempts. Bentz's most impactful performance came in Illinois Tech's win over Elmhurst on March 8th, when he went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, three RBI, a triple, a walk, and a stolen base, playing a key role in the Scarlet Hawks' offensive surge. He also collected a two-hit, two-RBI game with a triple in the March 7th game against Elmhurst. Against Wooster, Bentz continued to pressure opposing defenses, scoring three runs in the game on March 8 and swiping a base while consistently getting on base and setting the table for the Scarlet Hawks offense.
Caro-Accino Roca, a senior Finance major from Las Palmas de Gran Cañaría, Spain, went 2-0 in the Scarlet Hawks one match this past week, a 6-1 home win over UW-Stevens Point on Sunday. Roca started his day with a victory in number two doubles with partner Hozumi Tada, winning their match 6-2. He followed that up with a 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-6) win in the number one singles match.
