North Central Takes Down Baseball on Windy Sunday

Naperville, Ill. — Illinois Tech Baseball (5-10) fell in a non conference Sunday afternoon tilt against North Central College (7-8), 10-3 at Zimmerman Stadium. The Scarlet Hawks tallied six hits and swiped three bases, but the Cardinals' five-run surge in the fifth inning proved decisive in their victory.

How it Happened

Illinois Tech got on the board early in the first inning when Jack Friar was hit by a pitch, advanced to third, and scored thanks to a center field error during Ryan Fostiak's at-bat. North Central quickly responded, evening the score at 1-1.

The third inning saw North Central pull ahead with a left-field double by Peyton Burgh, bringing in Parker Wyatt to make it 2-1. Illinois Tech tied it up again in the fourth when Jonah Wilkes reached on a shortstop error and scored on a fielder's choice by Kendall Miyasato. The game was knotted at 2-2 through four innings.

North Central's offense exploded in the fifth, racking up five runs. Highlights included an RBI single by Payton Diaz, a two-RBI single by Jacob Hoernschemeyer, and a two-RBI double by Luke Wallace, stretching their lead to 7-2.

In the sixth, the Cardinals tacked on another run with a single from Peyton Burgh, extending the lead to 8-2. Illinois Tech fought back in the seventh when Luke Yachnin singled, advanced on a passed ball, and scored on a groundout by Philip Bentz, narrowing the gap to 8-3.

North Central padded their lead in the eighth with two more runs off a fielder's choice and a sacrifice fly, rounding out the score at 10-3. The Scarlet Hawks couldn't rally in the ninth, sealing the game with a final score of North Central 10, Illinois Tech 3.
