Women's Lacrosse Concludes Season Against Lake Forest

Lake Forest, Ill. — Illinois Tech Women's Lacrosse fell to Lake Forest College  with a 22–5 defeat on Tuesday afternoon at Farwell Field completing their season.  Illinois Tech concludes the year with a record of 5-12, and a conference record of 3-6. 

How It Happened

The game commenced with Samantha Gargiulo at goal for Illinois Tech and Cy Nash for Lake Forest. Illinois Tech struck first with a player-up goal by Antonia Martinez, assisted by Victoria Akirtava at 12:50. However, Lake Forest responded with a series of goals, starting with Shannon Gibbons at 9:20, and continued to build momentum with additional scores from Madison DeGeorge, Avery Srnka, and Gibbons again. Despite Martinez scoring her second goal of the quarter at 2:34, Lake Forest maintained control, ending the quarter with a goal by Audrey Kroeger at 00:39, setting the score at 6–2 in favor of Lake Forest.

Audrey Kroeger opened the scoring for Lake Forest with a goal at 14:41, assisted by Shannon Gibbons, extending its lead. Illinois Tech responded with a player-down goal by Martinez at 10:51, cutting the deficit. Lake Forest quickly regained momentum as Emma Sharp scored a player-up goal at 10:35, assisted again by Gibbons, followed by Shannon Gibbons finding the net at 9:46. Despite a timeout and another goal from Martinez, Lake Forest continued to control the quarter with goals from Emma Sharp, Audrey Kroeger, and Shannon Gibbons, ending the quarter with a commanding 14–4 lead.

Lake Forest extended its lead over the Scarlet Hawks during the third quarter with a series of impactful plays. Audrey Kroeger opened the scoring at 13:35 with her 26th goal of the season, assisted by Emma Sharp. Just under two minutes later, Eva Russell increased the gap with her second goal of the season. Gracia Muñoz added another for Lake Forest at 6:50, assisted by Madison DeGeorge. Illinois Tech responded with a goal from Kelly Hitchcock, her 15th of the season, at 4:44 after securing a ground ball. However, Lake Forest closed the quarter with two more goals, including a 43rd season goal by Emma Sharp at 2:13 and a late goal by Avery Srnka with 41 seconds remaining.

In the final quarter, Lake Forest extended its lead with three goals,  Audrey Kroeger scored early at 12:27, marking her 27th goal of the season. Madison DeGeorge followed with a goal at 6:11, increasing the margin further. Emma Sharp concluded the scoring for Lake Forest with a goal assisted by DeGeorge at 2:07. Despite multiple attempts, Illinois Tech was unable to capitalize, with Kelly Hitchcock's efforts repeatedly denied by Lake Forest's Cy Nash, who made several critical saves in the quarter. The game ended with a 22–5 victory for Lake Forest.
