Men's Tennis Advances To 7th Consecutive NACC Title Match With Sweep Of CUW

Chicago, Ill. — Number one seed Illinois Tech Men's Tennis (13-5) defeated number four seed Concordia Wisconsin (13-7) 4-0 on Friday at the XS Tennis Center in the NACC Men's Tennis Semifinal. Illinois Tech clinched the doubles point with victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions and secured straight-set wins in singles at positions No. 2, No. 3, and No. 4. The Scarlet Hawks advance to their seventh-consecutive NACC title match when they face number two seed MSOE Sunday morning in Kohler, Wisconsin. The Hawks have won the title five of the last six years, with MSOE claiming the 2023 title.

How It Happened

Illinois Tech secured the doubles point with victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. The duo of Pedro Roca and Hozumi Tada claimed a 6-2 win over Kristopher Greenhaw and Ryan Bilan at No. 2 doubles. Pol Dueso Guell and Tejas Sheth followed with a 6-3 victory against Gustavo Funo and Renan Botelho at No. 3 doubles. No. 1 doubles saw Alexander Feher and Tanay Sharma leading 5-3 when play was suspended.

In singles, Pol Dueso Guell extended Illinois Tech's lead with a commanding 6-1, 6-0 win over Ryan Bilan at No. 4 singles. Alexander Feher followed suit with a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Gustavo Funo at No. 3 singles. The match was clinched by Pedro Roca at No. 2 singles, who delivered a 6-1, 6-3 win over Murilo Zeni, bringing the running dual score to 4-0.

Post-clinch, the remaining singles matches were left unfinished. Tanay Sharma was ahead 7-6(7-5), 2-1 against Hayden Latus at No. 1 singles. Hozumi Tada trailed Renan Botelho 6-7(5-7) at No. 5 singles, and Joseph Au led Kristopher Greenhaw 6-1, 5-4 at No. 6 singles. The final dual score was 4-0 in favor of Illinois Tech.
