Chicago, Ill. — Illinois Tech women's tennis was looking to boost their NACC record to 2-0 when they hosted Concordia Wisconsin Saturday night at XS Tennis. Unfortunately for the Scarlet Hawks, it was the Falcons who earned the victory this night, winning the match 5-2. The Scarlet Hawks took singles matches at No. 3 and No. 6 and added a win at No. 2 doubles.
Illinois Tech is 1-3 overall and 1-1 in NACC play. The Falcons are 3-0 overall and 2-0 in NACC play.
How It Happened
The Falcons earned the doubles point with victories on two of the three completed courts. Taylor Peterson and Jordin Popp defeated
Martyna Kalinowska and
Annaliese Kielmeyer 6-1 at No. 1 doubles, and Taylor Weiner and Abigail Haley topped
Angelica Conwell and
Kira Lai 6-3 at No. 3. The Scarlet Hawks took No. 2 doubles, where
Maia Lecuona Ramos and
Thea Salcedo defeated Samantha Behling and Payton Steward 6-2.
In singles, Illinois Tech earned points at No. 3 and No. 6. Lecuona Ramos defeated Peterson 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3 singles, and Conwell outlasted Rachel Malm 2-6, 6-2, 7-6(2) at No. 6.
The Falcons added four singles wins to the doubles point. Jordin Popp defeated Kalinowska 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, Behling defeated Kielmeyer 7-5, 7-5 at No. 2, Abigail Haley defeated Salcedo 3-6, 7-5, 6-1 at No. 4, and Steward defeated
Paige Geiger 0-6, 6-2, 6-1 as the Scarlet Hawks fell 5-2.
