Women's Soccer Takes Care of Edgewood with 7-1 Victory

Chicago, Ill — Women's Soccer cruise to a 7-1 win over Edgewood on Saturday. The Scarlet Hawks scored five first-half goals and finished with a 28-5 advantage in shots. The Scarlet Hawks are 6-3-0 overall and 4-0-0 in conference play. Edgewood is 2-5-2 overall and 2-1-1 in conference play.

How It Happened

The Scarlet Hawks generated the first meaningful chances with Leena Almeqbeli's shot at 2:39 and a corner kick at 3:21, then went ahead 1-0 when Kayla Thomas scored from Emma Conway at 4:02. Tvesa Vathulya added a goal off Eva Narvarte's assist at 7:34, Olivia Roy scored from Leyna Yonehara at 9:04, and after Edgewood produced a shot from Annika Hudson at 9:55, Roy scored again from Narvarte at 11:26 to make it 4-0. Thomas scored again from Vathulya at 18:17, and the Scarlet Hawks continued to generate chances with three corner kicks from 20:41 to 26:44 while Madeline Brown saved shots from Grace Yager and Kaitlyn Walsh. Edgewood forced Kayla Hampton into a save on Kami Horn's shot at 38:52, but the Scarlet Hawks added two late corner kicks and carried a 5-0 lead into halftime.

The Scarlet Hawks opened the second half with steady pressure, getting shots from Kayla Thomas, Vathulya and Kayla Frassinelli around a corner kick before Vathulya scored at 55:07 to extend the lead to 6-0. Edgewood pushed back with shots saved by Clara Estiandan in the 65th and 71st minutes, and after the Scarlet Hawks generated several more chances, Sarah Bolchen scored off Maude Spagnolo-Salisbury's assist at 76:00 to make it 6-1. The Scarlet Hawks answered late when Taylor Hernandez scored at 85:25, then put another shot on goal in the 90th minute as they finished the match with a 7-1 win.
