Men's Soccer Plays to Scoreless Tie Vs Benedictine

LISLE, Ill. — Illinois Tech played Benedictine (IL) to a 0-0 tie on Wednesday. Illinois Tech finished with a 6-4 shot advantage and put two shots on goal while holding the Eagles without a shot on target. Illinois Tech is 5-4-1 overall and 2-2-1 in conference play. The Eagles are 3-3-3 overall and 2-0-2 in conference play.

How It Happened

Illinois Tech created the first recorded chance when Paul Balea shot out top left at 3:06, then Junior Pineda-Alcala added a shot and a corner sequence starting at 12:01. Pineda-Alcala forced Abraham Tiburcio into a save at 16:05, and the Scarlet Hawks continued forward with Tomas Rebelatto shooting left at 24:24 before another corner at 24:46. The match grew more physical through the middle and late stages, including a cluster of fouls from 19:03 to 27:32 and another stretch from 32:22 to 41:32 that included yellow cards to Theo Balea at 33:59 and Darii Kishchak at 36:43. Neither side broke through before halftime, leaving the first half scoreless.

Illinois Tech spent the early part of the second half defending Eagles pressure, as the home side earned a corner at 49:53 and put together shots from Jacob Skupien, Manny Casillas and Kendall Andrewin by 59:30. The Scarlet Hawks created their own chance with a corner at 52:46 and a Rebelatto shot at 63:12, but the Eagles continued to press with two more corners and an Ari Hernandez attempt that went out top before the 70th minute. The final stretch became foul-heavy, with five fouls from 82:30 to 89:36 around an Illinois Tech corner and a late Cal Graham shot at 89:09 that Abraham Tiburcio saved, and the match finished 0-0.
