Paul Balea Hat Trick Leads Men's Soccer to 7-0 Rout of UW-Stevens Point

Chicago, IL — Men's Soccer defeated Wis.-Stevens Point with an offensive explosion in a 7-0 final on Saturday. The Scarlet Hawks scored three goals in the first half and four more in the second, finishing with 21 shots and 14 on goal while recording their second consecutive shutout. The Scarlet Hawks are 2-1-0 overall. The Pointers are 2-1-0 overall.

Paul Balea recorded the Scarlet Hawks' first chance at 3:39, but the Pointers generated the next sustained spell with two corner kicks, a Mac Gaskell-Larson shot over the top and Connor Urban's attempt off the right woodwork. Illinois Tech worked back into the attack with shots from Zach Skiba, Cal Graham and Theo Balea, and Junior Pineda-Alcala opened the scoring at 27:16 with a free kick goal from distance to put the Scarlet Hawks ahead 1-0. Logan Olree doubled the lead at 29:17 with his first career goal off an assist from Graham, while Colin Thomas kept the Pointers off the board with saves on Marcelo Chavez, Keegan Fredrick and Lucas Bouska during the next stretch. Olree added another goal at 38:52, and Illinois Tech finished the half with a 3-0 lead.

The Scarlet Hawks opened the second half with sustained pressure, getting a Carson Floyd shot and a corner before Paul Balea scored at 48:47 off a free kick to extend the lead to 4-0. The attack continued with Graham putting multiple shots on frame, Adrian Cogolludo hitting the woodwork and Balea scoring again at 53:08 off Graham's assist for a 5-0 advantage. Balea converted a penalty kick at 58:12 to complete the hat trick. Dominik Kroupa capped off the scoring with his first career goal at 64:52 from midfield on a Enrique Alvarado assist to make it 7-0. The Pointers generated late pressure with several shots and corners, but David Rodriguez made saves on attempts by Jaxon Buckley and Szymon Kielar as Illinois Tech finished off the 7-0 win.
