THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Illinois Tech women's soccer wrapped up their 2-game trip to Southern California with a loss to #14 Cal Lutheran 3-0 on Sunday. Illinois Tech put three of its four shots on goal, while the Regals finished with 15 shots and seven on frame.
The Scarlet Hawks are 1-2-0 overall, and went 1-1 on their weekend trip. The Regals are 3-0-0 overall.
Illinois Tech had to work from a 2-0 first-half deficit after Olivia Suarez scored for the Regals in the eighth minute and again at 13:37. The Scarlet Hawks answered with chances in the 22nd and 23rd minutes, as
Tvesa Vathulya missed left and
Hannah Ramos put a shot on frame that Kira Kasarda saved. Illinois Tech also absorbed pressure defensively, including a team save on Jessica Sprouse's shot at 21:17 and a five-shot Regals stretch from 38:18 to 41:56 that ended with
Kayla Hampton saving Payton Hahn's attempt.
Taylor Hernandez put another shot on target in the 43rd minute, but Illinois Tech went into halftime trailing 2-0.
The Scarlet Hawks absorbed the Regals' early second-half pressure without conceding through 59:45, but Sawyer Frye scored off Olivia Suarez's assist at 61:05 to make it 3-0. Earlier, Illinois Tech opened the half with a corner kick at 48:07 and an
Olivia Roy shot that Kira Kasarda saved less than 30 seconds later. Hampton helped keep the match at 2-0 during the Regals' next attacking stretch, saving Jessica Sprouse's shot in the 57th minute as the Scarlet Hawks defended multiple corners.
