Scarlet Hawks Soar Past Crusaders

Box Score

Chicago, IL – The Illinois Tech women's soccer team enjoyed a 4-0 win on Saturday evening in dominating fashion.  The Scarlet Hawks outshot the visiting Crusaders from Maranatha Baptist Bible College by a 30-5 margin, putting 18 shots on frame.  Goalkeeper Roxanne Myers posted her fourth shutout of the season.

Adrianna Maron started off the scoring in the 36th minute by taking on a defender down the left side of the box and playing a dangerous ball across the goal mouth which took a deflection before making its way into the back of the net.  The Hawks entered halftime with only a 1-0 lead despite their 17 attempts in the first half.

Tech came out energized in the second half producing many more scoring opportunities before Anida Phetchanpheng was able to strike for her third goal of the season to make the score 2-0 in the 51st minute.  After some short combination play in the middle of the field, Mariah Kuitse sent a lofted pass over the heads of the Crusaders' defenders.  Phetchenpheng used her speed to be the first to the ball and volleyed her first touch past the rushing goalkeeper.

Phetchanpheng was then able to create another opportunity for the Hawks in the 71st minute.  After fighting off a Crusader defender, she played a ball across the top of the box to Veronica Torres who took care of the rest.  Torres took an impressive touch past a defender and rocketed a shot with her left foot into the far right corner of the goal for a 3-0 lead.  Maron then finished off the scoring with her sixth goal of the season and second on the night off a long ball by Hailey Kunkel which put her in against one defender and the goalkeeper to beat.  Maron calmly tucked a shot into the lower right corner of the net sealing the victory for the Hawks.

Ana Salgado and Whitney Theisen led the back line of the Hawks who were able to hold the Crusaders to only five total shots.

"I am excited for the team to be able to enjoy this victory.  It was a complete performance from top to bottom and we need to continue to display more of the same as we head into the final stretch of our season," said Coach Ahmet Kose.

Illinois Tech improves to 4-8 and will try to extend their two-game winning streak when they head to Purdue University Calumet on Tuesday at 7pm.
