Tech Drops Tight Match in Day 1 of USCAA Championships

ASHEVILLE, N.C.- The Illinois Institute of Technology women's soccer team competed in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Championships on Saturday, taking on #3 SUNY-ESF. The Scarlet Hawks fell 1-0.

How it Happened

  • The match started off slow offensivley, but the Mighty Oak generated a chance 15 minutes in. Recently named First Team USCAA All-American goalkeeper Roxanne Myers made a leaping save to keep the score tied at 0-0.
  • Just before the end of the first half, Anida Phetchanpheng attempted a beautiful bicycle kick off a cross that took a great save by the goalkeeper to stop. Both teams went into halftime scoreless.
  • Phetchanpheng almost was able to find the net again with 24 minutes left to play, but a header attempt narrowly missed wide.
  • Just a few minutes after the Phetchanpheng header, SUNY-ESF would finally tally on a Jessie Smith goal in the 67th minute.
  • The Scarlet Hawks would generate chances for Ade Maron and other down the stretch, but the Mighty Oak was able to withstands all runs en route to a win.
