How it Happened
-
13 minutes was all it took for the Hawks to score their first goal of the game. After earning a free kick, Lucy Jorjorian sent the ball into the 18-yard box, right near the penalty kick area. After going off two Warrior defenders, Gabriella Baltes gained control of the ball. Baltes took a touch before hitting a volley shot directly into the far corner, past the diving goalkeeper, giving the Hawks the 1-0 lead.
-
Goal number two came in the 18th minute off the foot of Allison Murray. After taking an initial shot outside the 18-yard box, the ball would deflect right off a Warrior defender and straight back to Murray. Murray took one touch, sending the ball into the 18-yard box, before taking a left-footed shot towards the goal. Unfortunately for the Warrior goalkeeper, she mishandled the ball as the ball slipped through her hands and into the back of the net, putting the Hawks up 2-0.
-
Kelly Hitchcock put the Hawks up 3-0 with a goal in the 25th minute. Caitie Chismarich assisted the goal after sending the ball across the goal and to the top of the 6-yard box where Hitchcock was running. Hitchcock was able to run onto the ball and one-touch it into the back of the net. Heading into halftime, the Hawks led the Warriors 3-0.
-
Coming out of halftime, the goals continued to come for the Hawks. Chismarich joined in on the goal scoring in the 53rd minute. Stealing the ball from a Warrior defender, Chismarich shot the ball from the top of the 18-yard box with her left foot and placed the ball into the left upper 90, putting the Hawks ahead 4-0.
-
In the 71st minute, Jillian Oligschlaeger scored with a shot from the top of the 18-yard box. Oligschlaeger shot skipped just in front of the Warrior goalkeeper, going right underneath her dive, giving the Hawks their 5th goal of the game.
-
Then, in the 76th minute, Lucy Vanveldhuisen scored off a Rachael Fujimori assist. Fujimori sent a corner kick to the center of the 6-yard box where Vanveldhuisen was able to get her head on the ball and flick it into the opposite side netting, giving the Hawks a 6-0 lead.
-
With 17 seconds remaining, Wiktoria Ucher sealed the final goal of the game off a Julianna Moore assist. With rain pouring down, Moore received the ball inside the 18-yard box. Ucher then ran onto the free ball, taking a touch before slotting the ball between the diving goalkeeper and the near post, sealing the Hawks 7-0 victory.
