Women’s Soccer Picks Up 6-0 Non-Conference Victory - Marks Coach Ellison’s 100th Win

Chicago, Ill. - For their final non-conference match of the 2023 regular season, the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks women's soccer team welcomed the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawks to Stuart Field on Tuesday, October 24. The night game marked the Hawks (16-2-1) 5th straight victory as they defeated the Warhawks (5-9-3) 6-0 with five different goal scorers finding the back of the net during the 90 minutes of action.

Tuesday's outcome also marked head coach Roshane Ellison's 100th program victory with the Scarlet Hawks.

How it Happened

  • Wasting no time, Kaitlyn Walsh got the Hawks on the board just two minutes into the match. Caitie Chismarich was awarded the assist on the goal when she laid the ball off to Walsh just outside the 18-yard box. Walsh then took one touch to get past the Warhawks defenders crashing in on her before placing a shot into the opposite side netting, giving the Hawks the early 1-0 lead.

  • In the 24th minute, Walsh recorded a brace with yet another goal off a Chismarich assist. Chismarich split three Warhawk defenders, passing the ball into the 18-yard box to where Walsh was running. Walsh was able to one-touch her shot right under the diving goalkeeper, giving the Hawks a 2-0 lead.

  • Three minutes later, the Hawks once again found the back of the net. With the Warhawks moving the ball across their back line, Jayla Anaya was able to intercept the pass. With no one in front of her, Anaya was able to dribble the ball straight into the box. With her left foot, Anaya sent the ball into the opposite side netting, putting the Hawks up 3-0.

  • After halftime, the goals continued to come for the Hawks. In the 57th minute, Allison Murray scored off a Chismarich and Walsh double assist. Chismarich, who received the ball at the top of the 18-yard box, laid the ball off to Walsh who immediately slotted the ball through to a running Murray. Murray, who received the ball right near the penalty spot, was 1v1 with the goalkeeper. Murray took a settling touch before shooting the ball with her right foot underneath the Warhawk goalkeeper. Here the Hawks led 4-0.

  • Goal number five came in the 73rd minute off the foot of Sofia Rodriguez-Magid from a Kenzie Tokuchi assist. Receiving a pass from Tokuchi at the top of the 18-yard box, Rodriguez-Magid dribbled further into the box. At the corner of the 6-yard box, Rodriguez-Magid sent a shot in between the Warhawk defender and the near post, placing the ball into the back of the net and giving the Hawks a 5-0 lead.

  • Then, five minutes later, the Hawks scored their sixth and final goal of the game. Lucy Vanveldhuisen found the back of the net off a Katharina Haerle assist. After receiving a pass, Haerle was able to one-touch poke the ball out to Vanveldhuisen who was making a run inside the 18-yard box. Just outside the 6-yard box, Vanveldhuisen took a one touch shot, sending the ball into the opposite side netting and securing the Hawks 6-0 victory over the Warhawks.
