How it Happened
-
The first goal of the contest came in favor of the Hawks who found the back of the net in the 12th minute of action. After an initial Allison Murray shot from inside the 18-yard was saved, the ball redirected into the direction of Jayla Anaya. Anaya was able to one touch a shot from the top of the 6-yard box into the net, giving the Hawks the early 1-0 lead. Murray was credited an assist.
-
The Hawks held the lead through halftime before the Falcons tied the match in the 53rd minute. After intercepting a Falcon free kick, the Hawks had a miscommunication that allowed the Falcons to gain control of the ball just outside the top of the 18-yard box. Autumn Snow, who assisted the play, would pass the ball into the box in the direction of Brei Rozmiarek's run. Rozmiarek took a touch before taking a shot and sending the ball into the opposite side netting, tying the game 1-1.
-
After a foul in the 61st minute inside the 18-yard box, the Hawks were awarded a penalty. Kelly Hitchcock stepped up to take the kick for the Hawks and sent the ball into the lower right corner, putting the Hawks ahead of the Falcons 2-1.
-
Gabriella Baltes then followed with a goal less than 2 minutes later. On a Hawk corner kick, Lucy Jorjorian played a short ball out to a wide open Carolyn Beltran. Beltran was awarded the assist on the goal when she passed a high ball into the box. Beltran's cross was tipped by the Falcon goalkeeper, but landed directly at the feet of Baltes. Baltes was able to volley the shot into the net, giving the Hawks a 3-1 lead.
-
Then, just five minutes later, Hitchcock recorded a brace and sealed the Hawks victory. After beating her Falcon defender off the ball, Caitie Chismarich assisted the play with a ground cross from inside the 18-yard box to Hitchcock. Hitchcock from the top of the 6-yard box one-touched the ball into the back of the net, giving the Hawks the 4-1 victory.
