Chicago, Ill. - The Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks men's soccer team welcomed the Eureka College Red Devils to Stuart Field on Sunday, September 10, for a non-conference match-up. Throughout the 90 minutes of play the Hawks (1-1-3) and the Red Devils (2-1-2) both picked up a goal a half, resulting in a 2-2 draw.
How It Happened
-
The opening goal of the match came from the visiting Red Devils when Raphael Mungu scored in the 37th minute. Mungu received the ball at half-field and took off, tearing through the Hawks defense, and headed straight towards the goal. Once inside the 18-yard box, Mungu placed a right footed shot into the opposite side netting to put the Red Devils up 1-0.

Right before halftime, in the 41st minute, the Hawks tied the game at 1-1 with a goal by Maciek Matusiak. Off a throw-in, Matusiak received the ball. With a defender on his back, Matusiak remained calm, turned, and created enough space between him and the Red Devil defender to rip a right footed shot, just outside the 18-yard box, over top of the defense and just between the Red Devil goalkeeper and the cross bar, scoring the Hawks first goal of the game.
-
In the 79th minute, Jake Skiba scored his very first goal as a Scarlet Hawk to put the Hawks ahead 2-1. The goal came off a Anthony Paiotti corner kick, earning Paiotti the assist. Paiotti's kick lofted in the air towards the near corner of the 6 yard-box to J. Skiba. J. Skiba created enough space between him and his defender to jump and flick a header shot into the opposite side netting to put the Hawks on top.
-
Then, in the 88th minute, with just two minutes remaining, the Red Devils were able to tie the game up when Isaac Noriega scored off an Aiden Andrews assist. From a Red Devil throw in, the ball was thrown into the center of the box, where Andrews was able to get a flick onto the ball, sending the ball right in front of Noriega. Noriega took a one-touch, right-footed shot, firing the shot between the near post and the Hawks goalkeeper, scoring the final goal of the game.
