Women’s Soccer Closes Out Massachusetts Trip with a 2-0 Victory over WIT

Boston, Mass. - For their last game in Massachusetts, the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks women's soccer team took on the Wentworth Institute of Technology Leopards for a non-conference match-up. In a rainy and gloomy game, the Hawks (3-1) found the back of the net twice over the Leopards (0-3) to come back to Illinois with a 2-0 victory.

How It Happened

  • Scoring her first career goal, Hali Parker found the back of the net in the 31st minute. The goal came as Sofia Rodriguez-Magid was able to send the ball around the box and in front of the goal. In an attempt to clear the ball, a Leopard defender swiped at it, miss hitting it, sending the ball in the direction of Parker. Sprinting towards the ball, Parker took a one-touch shot, just outside the 18-yard box, with her left foot. Parker fired off her shot towards the goal, going over the Leopard goalkeeper and hitting the underneath of the cross bar and entering the net.

  • Six minutes later the Hawks sealed their 2-0 victory with a goal from Allison Murray. Earning a free kick about 30 yards out from goal, Carolyn Beltran lined up to take the kick. In an organized set play, Beltran played a short ball across to a wide open Murray. Murray took a touch to settle the ball before ripping off a right footed shot from about 20 yards out. Murray's shot took a skipping bounce right in front of the diving Leopards goalkeeper, bouncing right over her and into the back of the net. Beltran was awarded the assist on Murray's goal.
