With the win, the Scarlet Hawks start Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play at 1-0, and improve to 4-1 overall. The Eagles start NACC play 0-1 and are now 2-2-1 on the season.
"Great team performance" said Head Coach Roshane Ellison. "We showed a lot of desire and composure to earn a victory in our conference opener."
How It Happened
- The Scarlet Hawks opened the scoring in the 7th minute. Illinois Tech was awarded a free kick on an Edgewood hand ball violation. Set up to the right of the penalty arc, Jorjorian fired a one-hopper that Edgewood goalkeeper Hailey Hartel made the initial save but was unable to secure the rebound. Vanveldhuisen, running down the left side of the box, evaded her defender and tapped in the rebound past Hartel and into the right corner of the net for a 1-0 Scarlet Hawks lead.
- In the 50th minute, the duo of Vanveldhuisen and Jorjorian struck again for the Scarlet Hawks. On a right-side corner kick, Jorjorian's kick lined to the left side of goal, and Vanveldhuisen was able to kick the ball in flight into the left corner of the net for a 2-0 Illinois Tech lead.
- The Scarlet Hawks would tally their final goal in the 73rd minute. Jorjorian kept a clearing attempt inside the Edgewood zone and moved to the right of the penalty arc, where she fired a shot that curled towards the left side of the net. Edgewood goalkeeper Hartel dove to her left to make the save, but the subsequent rebound found a waiting Jayla Anaya of the Hawks, and she put it past Hartel for the final 3-0 margin of victory.
