Women's Soccer Blanks Marian 2-0

Chicago, Ill. - Avery Sealey scored her first career collegiate goal, Lucy Jorjorian scored late on a penalty kick, and the Illinois Tech women's soccer team shut out Marian University 2-0 Saturday evening at Stuart Field in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play. With the win, the Scarlet Hawks improved to 2-0-0 in conference play, and 5-1-0 overall. The Sabres dropped to 1-1-0 in NACC play and 2-2-2 overall.

How It Happened
  • After a scoreless first half, the Scarlet Hawks finally broke open the scoring in the 57th minute. After a stoppage in play and substitutions, Marian goalkeeper Chelsea King tapped the ball in play to her right center back. The subsequent pass through the crease to the left center back was intercepted by a rushing Sofia Rodriguez-Magid. As King came out to challenge the potential shot, Rodriguez-Magid passed it to a wide-open Sealey in front of the net, and she popped it into the right corner of the net for a 1-0 Scarlet Hawks advantage.
  • In the 87th minute, Illinois Tech's Catie Chismarich was taken down inside the penalty area, resulting in a penalty kick for the Scarlet Hawks. Jorjorian was selected to take the kick, and she put it past King to the right-side of the net to extend the Hawks lead to 2-0, the final margin of victory.
