Chicago, Ill. - The Illinois Tech women's tennis team improved their record in conference play to 2-1 with a 9-0 victory over Marian Wednesday night at the XS Tennis Center. In addition to moving to 2-1 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play, the Scarlet Hawks improved to 2-3 overall. The Sabres dropped to 0-3 in conference and 0-4 overall.
Doubles Play (Illinois Tech 3 - Marian 0)
Doubles play proved to be the most competitive of the matches between Illinois Tech and Marian.
Hannah Markiewicz and
Sofia Zaballa Martinez paired up to take the number one doubles match 8-6.
Paige Geiger and
Pilar Torres-Dulce had to go to a tiebreaker before eventually winning their number two doubles match 8-7 (7-4 tiebreaker). The third doubles pairing of
Ashley Dame and
Maria Moran Miranda won their match comfortably, 8-2.
Singles Play (Illinois Tech 6 - Marian 0)
Hannah Markiewicz had to go to a third set tiebreak before eventually winning her number one singles match 2-6, 6-0, 1-0(10-7).
Sofia Zaballa Martinez bested Marian's Abby Okon 6-1, 6-4 in the number two singles match.
Paige Geiger took the number three singles match 6-1, 6-1, while
Carlotta Bernad-Canovas claimed the number four singles match 6-1, 6-0.
Ashley Dame defeated Marian's Josephine Bruch 6-1, 6-1 to win the number five singles match, and
Maria Moran Miranda completed the Scarlet Hawks sweep by taking the number six singles match 6-0, 6-2.
