Women’s Soccer Opens 2023 Season with a 3-0 Victory Over North Park

Chicago, Ill. - The Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks women's soccer team welcomed the North Park University Vikings to Stuart Field for the Scarlet Hawks first contest of the 2023 season. The Hawks were able to get their offense going to begin the season with a 3-0 victory over the Vikings in the non-conference contest. Three different Hawks found the back of the net during the victory.

How it Happened

  • The first goal of the game and first goal of the season came off the right foot of senior Kelly Hitchcock in the 29th minute. With the Vikings trying to get the ball out of their defense, the Hawks were applying pressure. Attempting to turn with the ball, a Viking defender lost control, causing the ball to go in the path of Hitchcock. Hitchcock took one touch to send the ball closer to goal before placing a shot to the upper left corner just outside the 18-yard box.

  • Just three minutes later at the 32nd minute, the Hawks scored their second of the game. A Kenzie Tokuchi corner kick sent the ball into the center of the 6-yard box. Vikings goalkeeper Emily LaSalle was able to get a hand out in, but was unsuccessful in completing a clearance. The ball would then bounce around the box before landing right in front of Avery Sealey. Sealey was then able to lay the ball off to sophomore Mary Frampton. From the top of the 18-yard box, Frampton would take a one-touch shot to the lower near post corner and find the back of the net to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead.

  • The final goal of the game came in the 84th minute. After receiving the ball in their defensive end, the Hawks immediately went into a counter attack play, sending the ball up the field. In a double-assist situation, Allison Murray played the ball to Kenzie Tokuchi who one-touched passed the ball through the Vikings defense to junior Lucy Vanveldhuisen. Vanveldhuisen took one touch inside the 18-yard box before sending the ball past the Vikings goalkeeper and into the opposite, lower right corner to give the Hawks their ultimate 3-0 victory.
