Claremont, Calif - The Illinois Tech women's volleyball team concluded their weekend at the Pacific Coast Classic with a 3-1 victory over Alfred University. The Scarlet Hawks finished the west coast trip with a 1-2 record, with some very close and competitive matches for the two losses on Friday.
The Scarlet Hawks fell to Lewis and Clark College in their trip opener Friday morning 3-2, in what was a hard fought, five-set battle. The Hawks lost to Chapman University 3-1 in their afternoon match on Friday, but still had competitive play throughout that match. Despite dropping the first two matches, the Hawks actually finished with a higher attack percentage (.147) versus their three opponents combined over the weekend (.141).
In the Alfred match Saturday morning, the Scarlet Hawks dropped the first set before running off three consecutive set victories to take the match, and leave California with a win under their belts. The Hawks used a 5-0 run to start the second set, and never trailed.
Sasami Cavan had two services aces in that run. In set three, Illinois Tech trailed 6-2 early, and trailed late 20-18 before running off four straight points to take the lead for good at 22-20. Set four was a tight affair at the midway point, with the scored tied at 13 all. The Hawks took seven of the next eight points to move in front 20-14, en route to the 25-19 set four and match victory.
Scarlet Hawk Standouts
- Briar Moore led the team with 36 kills and 2.77 kills per set. She added 5 service aces to go along with 34 digs. Moore finished with 42 total points.
- Victoria Vann had 28 kills with a 2.15 kills per set average. Vann finished with 29 points.
- London Francis added 26 kills for 2.00 kills per set average, to go along with 5 total blocks. Francis also finished with 29 points.
- Emily Graham had 21 kills for a 2.10 kills per set average. She led the team with a .321 attack percentage.
- Sasami Cavan stepped in to the setter position and had 58 assists on the weekend. She also led the team with 8 service aces.
- Stephanie Nguyen led the team with 56 digs for a 4.67 digs per set average. She also added 4 service aces.
- Sadie Harrington and Victoria Aspurez tied for the team lead in total blocks with Francis with 5 blocks.Â
- Michelle Navarro finished with 4 service aces without any service errors.

The Scarlet Hawks return to Chicago and will travel 24 blocks south on Wednesday, September 6th when they take on the University of Chicago Maroons in a non-conference matchup at 6:00 PM CT at the Gerald Ratner Athletics Center.Â
