Milwaukee, Wis. - Illinois Tech men's soccer came into their game Saturday afternoon at the Milwaukee School of Engineering with a chance to move over .500 in conference play and deliver MSOE their first conference loss. Unfortunately it was the Raiders who would turn back the Scarlet Hawks, winning the match 3-1 to remain undefeated in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play (3-0-0), and 7-1-1 overall. The Scarlet Hawks fell to 1-2-0 in NACC play and 2-4-4 overall.
The Raiders outshot the Scarlet Hawks 16-9 and in shots on goal, 7-5.
How It Happened
- MSOE tallied the game's first goal in the 28th minute. MSOE's Michael Rohrman controlled the ball on the left sideline inside the Scarlet Hawk zone. About halfway into the zone, he sent a pass deep into the box that Lukas Schwenke poked in mid-air into the net for a 1-0 Raiders lead.
- The Raiders would add to their lead just over seven minutes later. After a deep MSOE pass into the Illinois Tech zone, just to the right of goal, a contested ball was deflected to an on-rushing Owen Gendrich, who had just entered the game. Gendrich fired a shot into the top right-corner for a 2-0 Raiders lead.
- The Scarlet Hawks would have an answer in the 74th minute. A Scarlet Hawks header attempt angled wide right of net. Devin Zakeri tracked down the loose ball and passed to Michael Kaczowka, who was able to fight off a defender and get a shot on MSOE goalkeeper Ethan Houseworth, who got a piece of the ball but deflected it into the left corner of the net, cutting the Illinois Tech deficit to 2-1.
- MSOE would respond just over five minutes later. A Raiders throw-in deep in Illinois Tech territory from the left sideline went to MSOE's Nico Picha. Picha sent a cross to Gendrich through the box, and Gendrich fired inside the right post for his second goal of the match, and a 3-1 MSOE lead.
