Milwaukee, Wis. - In a battle of unbeaten conference teams Saturday afternoon in Milwaukee, it was the Illinois Tech women's soccer team who took home the W on this day, defeating the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) 2-0 to take sole possession of first place in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC). With the victory the Scarlet Hawks moved to 4-0-0 in conference, and 7-1-1 overall. The Raiders fell to 3-1-0 in conference and 7-1-2 overall.
The 2-0 victory also extended the Scarlet Hawks shutout stream to six straight matches. The Hawks have shut out their opponents in seven of their nine matches played, and have only allowed six goals for the season.
"I'm proud of the character and desire the team showed against a tough MSOE team" said Head Coach Roshane Ellison. "This was a well-earned team victory" said Ellison.
How It Happened
- The Scarlet Hawks opened the scoring just under 35 minutes into the match. Lucy Jorjorian kept the ball inside the middle of the MSOE zone. Jorjorian worked her way towards the right side and passed to Amelia Moseman on the right wing. Moseman cut inside on her defender and approached towards the right side of the net. As a defender moved towards Moseman, she sent a pass to Caitie Chismarich at the top of the box. Chismarich dribbled in five yards, and then blasted a shot into the top left corner for a 1-0 Illinois Tech advantage.
- In the 63rd minute, Moseman took a pass midway up the right sideline inside the MSOE zone. She raced past her defender and sent a cross towards Kelly Hitchcock heading towards the right post. Hitchcock outran her defender and the Raiders goalkeeper just enough to send a pass to her left to an oncoming Lucy Vanveldhuisen, who tapped it into the back of the net for a 2-0 Scarlet Hawks lead.
