Chicago, Ill. - With an opportunity to move up in the conference standings, the Illinois Tech women's tennis team was handed a 9-0 defeat by Wisconsin Lutheran Saturday morning at the XS Tennis Center. The loss dropped the Scarlet Hawks to 3-3 in Northern Collegiate Athletics Association (NACC) play, and to 3-5 overall. The Hawks currently sit in sixth place in the conference, still within post-season tournament qualifying. The Warriors improved to 4-1 in conference, and 4-3 overall.
Doubles Play (Wisconsin Lutheran 3 - Illinois Tech 0)
The Warriors controlled doubles play to jump out to a 3-0 match lead. The number two doubles match of
Paige Geiger and
Pilar Torres-Dulce proved to be the most competitive, with the pair winning six sets before eventually falling 8-6.
Singles Play (Wisconsin Lutheran 6 - Illinois Tech 0)
The Warriors won every set but one, as
Ashley Dame was able to win the second set in her number four singles match with Wisconsin Lutheran's Izzy Hawley. Hawley was eventually able to defeat Dame in a third set tie-breaker. The Hawks also received multiple set winners by
Sofia Zaballa Martinez with 5 set victories; Dame with 9 set victories; and
Maria Moran Miranda with 5 set victories.
