How it Happened
- A turnover in the Scarlet Hawks zone resulted in an offensive rush for the Spartans when Maruwe Exauce stole the ball just inside midfield. Exauce raced down the middle and maneuvered right of goal towards the back line, then chipped the ball to the goal area, where Cory Mitchell of the Spartans headed the ball towards the net. The Scarlet Hawks Matthew Wareham was able to block the shot and tried to clear, but the attempt went directly to the Spartans Chris Gerken, who fired a left-footer into the lower left corner of the net for a Manchester 1-0 lead at the 21-minute mark. The Spartans went into halftime maintaining their 1-0 advantage.
- The Scarlet Hawks would find the equalizer in the 62nd minute. Logan Garcia tracked down a loose ball at the 20-yard line inside Spartans territory, and headed a pass to Devin Zakeri. Zakeri took the pass and dribbled down the left hash marks towards the goal area, where he passed to Michael Kaczowka on his right. With Kaczowka's back to the net, he gathered the ball with his left foot, spun to his left and sent a right-footer into the lower left-corner for his first goal of the season.
