Chicago, Ill. – Two undefeated Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) teams faced off on Wednesday night when the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks women's soccer team welcomed the Dominican University Stars to Stuart Field. Both teams entered the contest with a 4-0-1 record. Following 90 minutes of action and six total goals scored, the Hawks (8-2-1, 5-0-1) ended up on top, securing a 4-2 victory over the Stars (5-5-2, 4-1-1).
Caitie Chismarich recorded a brace during the first half of action.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-
Freshman Eva Narvarte opened the goal scoring in the 9th minute of action off a Jillian Oligschlaeger assist. Liliana Schuth started the play after intercepting a Stars clearance attempt. After gaining control of the ball, Schuth passed the ball to an open Oligschlaeger on the far sideline at half field. With open space in front of her, Oligschlaeger took a few touches before playing a splitting pass forward towards Narvarte. Narvarte was able to get just enough of a touch on the ball to gain control. After taking one touch to create some distance between her and her defender, Narvarte ripped a right-footed touch from outside the 18-yard box, sending the ball right bast the diving Stars goalkeeper.
-
21 seconds later, the Hawks doubled their lead. After being fouled inside the 18-yard box, Caitie Chismarich took the penalty kick for the Hawks. Striking the ball with her right foot, Chismarich perfectly placed her shot into the lower left corner.
-
Chismarich then recorded a brace with her second goal of the contest in the 14th minute. Amelia Moseman assisted the play when she passed the ball to Chismarich. Letting the ball roll in front of her, Chismarich faked her defender, allowing her to take a clear, left-footed shot from the very top and center of the 18-yard box. Chismarich's shot sailed through the air, making its way past the diving Stars goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
-
In the 28th minute, the Stars scored their first goal of the contest. As a Star corner kick sailed its way to the top of the 6-yard box, multiple players from both teams jumped, attempting to get a head on the ball. With the ball deflecting off the sea bodies, Mia Doesn was able to run into the space where the ball was falling and head the ball into the back of the net.
-
Following the halftime break, the Stars came within one with a goal in the 49th minute. During a free kick, the Star earned a foul inside the 18-yard box, resulting in a penalty kick. Regan Coxon took the kick for the Stars, placing the ball into the left side of the goal, opposite of Sarah Thomas' dive.
-
The final goal of the contest came in the 55th minute off a Lucy Jorjorian free kick. Taking a free kick about 25 yards out from goal, Jorjorian placed a right footed shot to the near post side. The Stars goalkeeper would make a diving attempt, but Jorjorian's shot had just enough power, making its way directly into the back of the net.
