Chicago, Ill. – Looking to remain undefeated in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play, the Illinois Tech Women's Soccer team welcomed the Lakeland University Muskies to Stuart Field on Saturday, October 12th to start the second half of conference play. Holding most of the possession in their offensive half through the 90 minutes of action, the Hawks fired off 45 shots, with 20 on goal, while holding the Muskies completely shot less. Of the 20 shots on goal, five would find the back of the net, leading to a 5-0 Hawk (9-2-1, 6-0-1) victory over the Muskies.
Caitie Chismarich and Kaitlyn Walsh both recorded a brace. This marks back-to-back braces for Chismarich and Walsh's first of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-
Hannah Ramos broke the shutout in the 21st minute off an Eva Narvarte assist. Receiving the ball in the Hawks offensive half, Narvarte turned and chipped the ball over-the-top of the Muskies defense into the 18-yard box. Ramos made the perfect run, making her first touch inside the box to control the ball. Ramos then placed a right-footed shot to the outside of the Muskies defender. Attempting a diving save, the ball would roll under her, resulting in the Hawks first goal of the game.
-
Six minutes later, Caitie Chismarich scored her first of the game and the Hawks second with a goal off a Kayla Smith assist. Juking her defender to make her way inside the 18-yard box, Smith laid the ball off to Chismarich. With multiple Muskie defenders crashing in towards her, Chismarich was able to sneak her way into the 6-yard box before placing a shot into the opposite side netting.
-
Just before halftime, Kaitlyn Walsh found the back of the net off a Wiktoria Ucher assist. In the 43rd minute, Ucher outworked her defender before playing a slightly chipped ball into open space inside the 18-yard box. Walsh, being the closest to the ball, took a one-touch, right-footed shot, sending the ball into the lower left corner.
-
Walsh would go on to record a brace in the 66th minute off a Ramos assist. The play started when Gabriella Baltes intercepted the ball at half-field and passed it forward to Ramos. Ramos then took off running before passing the ball off to Chismarich. Although not planned, Chismarich and Ramos ended up doing a give and go, with Ramos ending back up with the ball. After taking one touch, Ramos passed the ball forward into the 18-yard box towards Walsh. Running towards goal with a defender on her side and the Muskie goalkeeper coming out, Walsh sent a shot towards goal. The ball would hit off the Muskie goalkeeper, bouncing up into the air, but had enough power on it from Walsh's shot to cross the goal line, giving the Hawks a 4-0 lead.
-
Five minutes later, Chismarich recorded a brace for herself off an Amelia Moseman assist for the final goal of the game. Just inside the 18-yard box, Moseman dropped the ball back to Chismarich. Chismarich then took a couple touches inside before ripping off a right footed shot into the opposite side netting to give the Hawks their 5-0 victory.
