Chicago, Ill. - Ever since their 1-1 draw at Concordia Wisconsin back on October 5th, the Illinois Tech women's soccer team has been on a mission to never be in that position again at the end of a match. Wednesday night at Stuart Field, the Scarlet Hawks would extend their winning streak since the CUW game to three games, as they blanked the Aurora Spartans 3-0. The Scarlet Hawks improved to 7-0-1 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play and to 10-2-1 overall. The Spartans fell to 1-4-3 in conference and to 2-9-3 overall.
Of the Hawks 10 overall wins on the season, 8 have been of the shutout variety, including 6 in conference.
The Scarlet Hawks thoroughly dominated play on the evening, outshooting the Spartans 31-0, with 18 shots on frame. If not for the play of Aurora's goalkeeper Melina Cane, the Hawks could have had several more goals.
How It Happened
- Although the Scarlet Hawks were outplaying the Spartans, the match stayed scoreless for the first 22-plus minutes of the opening half.
- The Scarlet Hawks would get on the board at the 23:45 mark. Jillian Oligschlaeger sent a pass from midfield of the left sideline inside to Caitie Chismarich, standing 40 yards up from goal on the left. Chismarich curled to her left to elude her defender and headed towards goal. Two defenders converged on Chismarich, leaving Hannah Ramos all alone to Chismarich's right. Chismarich passed between the two defenders towards Ramos. As Ramos was converging on the ball, the Spartan's goalkeeper Cane rushed out to meet her. Ramos made a quick tip pass to her right, where the Hawks' Amelia Moseman collected the ball, and as she was approaching the back line she fired a right footer into the left corner for a 1-0 Scarlet Hawks lead, the lone goal of the first half. For Moseman, it was her fifth goal of the season.
- Â The Hawks extended their lead to 2-0 at the 64:52 mark. Chismarich received a pass in the middle 30 yards out from goal and fed a pass into Moseman at the top of the penalty area. Moseman circled to elude her defender and took four strides up field before passing back to Chismarich, who found an opening and raced down the left seam. With another pair of defenders converging on Chismarich, she fired a right-footer between the defenders and inside the right post for her team-leading 10th goal of the season.
- The Hawks would close out the scoring at the 78:35 mark. A Spartan's pass intended for Anna Corneliusen inside the Aurora defensive zone was intercepted by the Scarlet Hawks Joanne Porter 45 yards out from goal. Porter spun forward and passed to her right to Allison Murray. Murray dribbled the ball down the left side to the top of the penalty area, where she sent a pass inside the box to Kayla Smith. Smith stopped the ball for a second and passed back up to Murray, who took three strides to her left and fired a left-footer 25 yards out that deflected off a Spartans' defender and into the back of the next for her fourth of the season, giving the Hawks a 3-0 lead.
