Hannah Ramos Brace Helps Lead Women’s Soccer to 3-0 Victory Over CUC

River Forest, Ill. – Traveling just outside of Chicago, the United Soccer Coaches Region VIII 7th Ranked Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks women's soccer team took on the Concordia University of Chicago Cougars in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) match-up. Entering the match, both the Hawks and Cougars held an undefeated conference record, with the Hawks siting at 3-0 while the Cougars held a 3-0-1 record. With only one team capable of remaining undefeated in conference play, it would be the Hawks (7-2, 4-0) who would prevail with a 3-0 victory, handing the Cougars (7-4-1, 3-1-1) their first conference loss of the season. During the 90 minutes of action, the Hawks were able to hold the Cougars shot-less.

Freshman Hannah Ramos had herself a game, recording a brace in the first half. The combined defense of Gabriella Baltes, Mary Frampton, Jillian Oligschlaeger, Liliana Schuth, Annika Torbenson, Carolyn Beltran, and Kayla O'Neal shut down any Cougar offensive attack, helping lead to a combined shut-out victory for goalkeepers Sarah Thomas and Katia Blatnik.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Freshman Hannah Ramos opened the goal scoring in the 25th minute with a right-footed goal off a Caitie Chismarich assist. Following a Hawk throw in, Lucy Jorjorian took a shot from 25 yards out that would be a blocked by a Cougar defender. Gaining control of the loose ball, the Hawks passed the ball around the Cougar defense, looking for an opening. Jorjorian would pass the ball forward, to the top of the 18-yard box to Chismarich. With two defenders on her, Chismarich was able to get just enough of a touch on the ball to an open Ramos. Ramos then dribbled through three Cougar defender, making her way to the top of the 6-yard box. Ramos placed a right-footed shot into the opposite side netting, giving the Hawks a 1-0 lead.

  • With the Cougars holding possession of the ball in their defensive half, the Hawks put on the pressure. Amelia Moseman stole the ball before laying it off to Chismarich who took off dribbling towards goal in a 1v1 situation. Once inside the 18-yard box, Chismarich squared up a pass, sending the ball directly towards to penalty kick area to where Ramos was making a run. With a one-touch, right-footed shot, Ramos scored her second of the game in the 33rd minute, placing the ball in the lower left corner of the net. Moseman and Chismarich were awarded assists on the play.

  • The Hawks led at halftime 2-0.

  • At the 76th minute mark, Avery Sealy had one of the Hawks best chances in the second half, but would barely miss as her left-footed shot from the 6-yard box hit just off the crossbar.

  • In the 86th minute, Kaitlyn Walsh found the back of the net to extend the Hawks lead. From about 25 yards out, Walsh ripped off a right footed shot. The shot would skip just in front of the Cougars goalkeeper and make its way into the goal, giving the Hawks their third goal of the match.

  • At the final whistle, the Hawks defeated the Cougars 3-0.
