Men's Tennis Edges Roosevelt 5-4

Chicago, Ill. - In a non-conference match that didn't complete until late into the night, the Illinois Tech men's tennis team won a close battle with Roosevelt University 5-4 Wednesday night at the XS Tennis Center. Illinois Tech evened their record at 2-2 on the season, while the Lakers fell to 2-2.

As is the case in most tennis matches, the Scarlet Hawks ability to win the opening doubles matches 2-1 gave them the edge they needed to secure the overall match victory after the singles matches finished in a 3-3 draw.

Doubles Play (Illinois Tech 2 - Roosevelt 1)
Illinois Tech claimed doubles victories in the number one and two doubles matches, with Alann Torres and Avneet Singh winning 8-6 in the number one match, while Davis Housman and Jordan Lauer blanked Roosevelt in the number two match 8-0. Nabil Fawaz and Pol Dueso Guell fell 8-3 in their number three doubles match.

Singles Play (Illinois Tech 3 - Roosevelt 3)
The Scarlet Hawks earned singles victories in the first three singles matches. Davis Housman took number one singles match 7-6(7-5), 6-4. Alann Torres won his number two match in straight sets 6-3, 6-2. Nabil Fawaz won a three-set match in the number three singles match 6-4, 4-6, 6-2. Pol Dueso Guell and Jordan Lauer each lost hard-fought three-set matches in the number four and six matches, respectively. Dueso Guell won the opening set 7-5, lost set two 5-7, and then fell in the third set tie-breaker 0-1(5-10). Lauer also won his opening set 7-6(9-7), before falling in set two 4-6, and losing the third-set tie-breaker 0-1(6-10). Eduardo Lopez dropped his number five singles match in straight sets 4-6, 4-6.

The Scarlet Hawks head to Oberlin, Ohio this Saturday for a pair of matches, starting with the NCAA Division III reigning men's champions Case Western Reserve University at 12:00 PM CT, followed by a late afternoon match with host Oberlin College at 4:00 PM CT.
