Men’s Lacrosse Begins 2024 Season with Road Victory

Nashville, Tenn. - Opening on their 2024 season campaign on the road, the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks men's lacrosse team took on the LaGrange College Panthers in non-conference action. The neutral site contest saw the Hawks (1-0) come away with a 10-9 victory over the Panthers (2-2) after recording at least two goals in each quarter. Four different Hawks recorded two goals each. 

First Quarter (Illinois Tech 3 - LaGrange 2)

  • Wasting absolutely no time, the Panthers Luke Young scored just six seconds into the contest.

  • Then, just 38 seconds later, the Panthers went up 2-0 with a goal by Klein Woods.

  • Diego Sosa scored the Hawks first goal of the game off a Ty Dwyer assist at the 9:33 mark. At 6:24, Reed Tangeman tied the contest at 2-2 with his first goal of the game. 

  • Jackson Brass recorded the final goal of the quarter with 2:20 remaining, giving the Hawks a 3-2 lead at the end of the first quarter. 

Second Quarter (Illinois Tech 3 - LaGrange 0)

  • During the second quarter of action, the Hawks held the Panthers scoreless while finding the back of the net three times. 

  • Henry Rankin tallied his lone goal at the 9:56 mark.

  • At 5:26, Sosa scored his second goal, giving the Hawks a 5-2 lead. 

  • 39 seconds later, Jonathan Vitale joined in on the Hawks scoring with the second quarter's final goal. Alexander Stokrp was awarded the assist on the goal. 

  • At halftime, the Hawks led the Panthers 6-2.

Third Quarter (Illinois Tech 2 - LaGrange 1)

  • Brass found the back of the net for the second time at the 11:43 mark in the third quarter, giving the Hawks a 5-goal, 7-2 lead.

  • The Panthers got back on the scoreboard during the third quarter with a goal by Ryan Comeau off an Andrew Brown assist at 10:34.

  • 30 seconds later, the Hawks immediately answered with a goal of their own. Stokrp recorded the goal for the Hawks

  • No more goals were recorded during the remaining 10 minutes of action, giving the Hawks a 8-3 lead at the end of the third quarter. 

Fourth Quarter (Illinois Tech 2 - LaGrange 6)

  • The Panthers went on a goal scoring streak during the fourth quarter to tie the Hawks. Their first goal of the quarter came at 12:11 from Woods, his second of the game. 

  • Comeau then scored his second of the game at 9:19, making the score 8-5 in favor of the Hawks. 

  • At 7:13, Brown joined in on the goal scoring. 

  • Woods then brought the Panthers within one at 6:46. 

  • Just over a minute later, Woods tied the contest at 8-8 with his fourth goal of the game. 

  • Vitale finally broke the Panthers goal scoring streak with a goal at 4:24 for the Hawks, putting them back ahead. 

  • With 3:34 remaining in the game, the Panthers once again tied the game as Brown found the back of the net for the second time. 

  • At the 2:12 mark, Tangeman scored the game winning goal for the Hawks unassisted.

  • Neither side was able to get another shot off before the final horn went off, giving the Hawks the 10-9 victory.
