Nashville, Tenn. - Finishing up their Nashville trip to open up the 2024 season, the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks men's lacrosse team took on the Piedmont University Lions in a neutral-site, non-conference match-up. The Hawks (1-1) would hang strong with the Lions (4-0), holding the lead at halftime and at the end of the fourth quarter. But an offensive surge by the Lions sent them on top as the Hawks were held scoreless during the final 15 minutes of action. In the end, the Hawks fell to the Lions 9-5.

First Quarter (Piedmont 2 - Illinois Tech 2)

The first goal of the contest came at 13:57 when the Lions Brady McGuire scored off a Robert Bennett assist.

McGuire put the Hawks up 2-0 at 10:56 off a Drew Bennett assist.

Jackson Brass put the Hawks on the board with his first goal of the game on an unassisted goal at 6:48.

At 2:06, Brass scored off a Reed Tangeman assist to tie the game.

At the end of the first quarter, the Hawks and Lions were tied at 2-2.
Second Quarter (Piedmont 1 - Illinois Tech 2)

The Lions quickly went back on top to begin the second quarter. 28 seconds into the quarter the Lions Jacob Hasbrouck scored off a Will Isley assist.

Much of the quarter would go by before another goal would be scored. At 3:28, Brass scored his third goal for the Hawks, a hat-trick, to tie the game at 3-3.

Brass then gave the Hawks their first lead of the game at 2:12. Diego Sosa assisted the goal.

After 15 minutes of action, the Hawks led the Lions 4-3 at halftime.
Third Quarter (Piedmont 1 - Illinois Tech 1)

At the 12:08 mark in the third quarter, the Hawks took a two goal lead when Brass scored off a Tangeman assist. This marked Brass 5th goal and the Hawks final goal of the game

The Lions brought the score back within one when the duo of Hasbrouck and Isley found the back of the net once again.

Neither team would score again as the third quarter ended with the Hawks ahead 5-4.
Fourth Quarter (Piedmont 5 - Illinois Tech 0)

Unfortunately for the Hawks, the Lions would take complete control in the fourth quarter, scoring five goals while holding the Hawks to none.

At 14:16, the Lions tied the game at 5-5 when Connor Rogers found the back of the net off a McGuire assist.

Ian Parr scored at 11:31 off a Nick Winter assist to take a 6-5 lead.

Isaac Harrington then joined in on the goal scoring off a McGuire assist at 6:51.

Over two minutes later, Parr scored his second of the game, this time off a Noah McGriff assist.

The final goal of the game came in a man-up situation at 4:01. Harrington scored for the second time for the Lions off McGuire's third assist.

In the end, the Lions defeated the Hawks 9-5.
