Men's Lacrosse Overpowers Cornell 12-3 In Home Opener

Chicago, Ill. - Reed Tangeman, Jackson Brass and Diego Sosa each scored a pair of goals, and the Illinois Tech men's lacrosse team outshot Cornell College 45-9 en route to a dominating 12-3 victory over the Rams in the Scarlet Hawks home opener on a sunny but frigid Saturday afternoon at Stuart Field. The Hawks improved to 2-1 on the young season. The Rams fell to 0-2.

The Scarlet Hawks scored 49 seconds into the opening quarter, and held a 5-0 lead two minutes into the second quarter to take early control of the game.

First Quarter (Illinois Tech 4 - Cornell 0)
Ty Dwyer got the scoring started for the Scarlet Hawks with an unassisted goal 49 seconds into the first quarter. Owen Huard followed up at the 9:31 mark with another unassisted tally. Jaeger Breault helped facilitate the Hawks' third and fourth tallies of the opening quarter, assisting on a Jackson Brass goal at 6:29, and then capped off the first quarter with the assist on Jonathan Vitale's goal with just under two minutes remaining.

Second Quarter (Illinois Tech 3 - Cornell 1)
Diego Sosa extended the Scarlet Hawks lead to 5-0 with an unassisted goal just over two minutes into the second quarter. Cornell finally found the back of the net two minutes later when Charley Kobets scored unassisted at the 10:51 mark. But a minute later the Hawks got that goal back when Alexander Stokrp scored unassisted at 9:53. Reed Tangeman closed out the scoring in the first half with a goal 44 seconds later, giving the Hawks a 7-1 lead at the break.

Third Quarter (Illinois Tech 3 - Cornell 2)
Gavin Ravalli of the Rams had the opening tally of the third quarter just 43 seconds in, cutting the Cornell deficit to 7-2. The Scarlet Hawks had an immediate answer, as Brass scored his second of the game 22 seconds later to re-establish a six-goal lead. Neither team would score over the next twelve minutes until Sosa scored his second of the game at 1:40, giving Illinois Tech a 9-2 lead. Tyler Foster responded for the Rams with an unassisted tally 30 seconds later. But with 11 seconds remaining in the third quarter, Jaeger Breault found the back of the net, giving the Hawks a 10-3 lead heading into the final frame.

Fourth Quarter (Illinois Tech 2 - Cornell 0)
Yano Porter and Tangeman closed out the scoring in the fourth quarter, with Porter scoring unassisted at 10:07, and Tangeman recording his second goal of the game at 6:52, with an assist from Porter.
