Auburndale, Fla. - On day two of action at the RussMatt Invitational, the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks baseball team faced two separate opponents. For the first game of the day, the Hawks (1-6) faced the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) Tigers (4-4). During the fifth inning, the Tigers took the lead and led the rest of the way, defeating the Hawks 4-2. Then, in game two, the Hawks and Ravens (8-5) put on a thriller, including a combined 19-run seventh inning. In the end, the Hawks fell just short of completing their comeback against the Tigers, falling by a final score of 13-12.
Game One (RIT 4 - Illinois Tech 2)

RIT got the game going in the top of the second inning when the Tigers scored an unearned run on a passed ball. Illinois Tech immediately responded in the bottom of the second inning. Connor Blake got on base for the Hawks from a walk and later advanced to second. Mason Kim went on to record a sac-fly to bring Blake home and tie the game. At the end of the second inning, the Hawks and Tigers were tied at 1-1.

Both sides then recorded one run a piece in the third inning. At the top of the inning, the Tigers scored their run when an Adam Marsh single brought in Randy Dodig. The Hawks went on to tie the contest at 2-2 when Michael Paxson singled to right field, bringing home Matthew Bove.

After a scoreless fourth inning, the Tigers went on to take the lead with the game's final runs in the fifth inning. A 2-run home run by A. Marsh ultimately gave the Tigers the 4-2 victory.

To get the game going, both teams recorded their first run in the first inning. With the Ravens scoring off a single that brought a runner in, the Hawks Paxson answered with a sac-fly to bring home Bove. At the end of the first inning, the Hawks and Ravens were tied 1-1.

Two scoreless innings followed before both sides again recorded one run a piece in the fourth inning. The Ravens scored an unearned run to take the brief lead before the Hawks tied the contest back up. In a bases-loaded situation, the Hawks would score a run after a hit-by-pitch. After four innings, the Hawks and Ravens were tied at 2-2.

In the fifth inning, the Hawks went ahead by two runs. With one out, Paxson stepped up to bat and doubled out to left field. Blake then followed with a double of his own, bringing home Paxson. Samuel Sproule then reached first after a hit-by-pitch, putting runners on first and second. Michael Lindenmuth then singled to right field. An error would be recorded by the right fielder, allowing the base runners to advance and allowing Blake to score. At the end of the fifth inning, the Hawks led 4-2.

The Hawks lead lasted until an exciting 7th inning of baseball. During the Ravens at-bat, 11 runs would be scored. A Justin Reed double brought in the first two runs of the inning. A Griffin Wolf single followed, bringing in two more runners. Then, after a Hawks error, the Ravens scored one run before a Trey Dorton double scored three runs. The final three runs of the top of the inning came off a Wolf double to center field. In between innings, the Ravens held a 13-4 lead. In the bottom half of the inning, Blake immediately got the momentum going for the Hawks with a solo home run. Lindenmuth then brought home Sproule off a double to left field. Then, in a bases loaded situation, Timmy Old singled to left field, scoring two runners. Once again with bases loaded, the Hawks would bring in one more run after a walk shifted the bases. On the following play, a ground out allowed Old to score. With Blake back up to bat, he would single to center field, bringing in the final two runs of the inning, and ultimately the game.

The Hawks looked to keep momentum going, but in the end fell just short to the Ravens by a final score of 13-12.
