Women's Tennis Sweeps Agnes Scott College 9-0

Hilton Head Island, SC. - After getting swept in their first match on their spring break trip at, the Illinois Tech women's tennis team flipped the script in their second match this week, sweeping Agnes Scott College 9-0 in an early Tuesday morning match at Hilton Head. The Scarlet Hawks improved to 4-11 on the season, while the Scotties fell to 0-6.

In the match victory, sophomore Rhea Karumuru secured her first collegiate singles victory, and her first collegiate doubles victory.

Doubles Play (Illinois Tech 3 - Agnes Scott 0)
The Scarlet Hawks set the tone for the match by sweeping doubles play, including the number one doubles team of Hannah Markiewicz and Sofia Zaballa Martinez blanking their opponents 8-0. The number two and three doubles teams of Maria Moran Miranda and Paige Geiger, and Ashley Dame and Rhea Karumuru, respectively, each won their doubles contents by the score of 8-2. For Dame and Karumuru, it was their first doubles victory as a pairing this season, and Karumuru's first collegiate doubles victory.

Singles Play (Illinois Tech 6 - Agnes Scott 0)
The Scarlet Hawks won in straight sets in all but one of their six singles matches. Markiewicz won the number one singles match 6-2, 6-2. Zaballa Martinez owned the number two match 6-1, 6-1. The number three singles match proved to be the most competitive of all of the matches on the day, with Geiger coming back from a 4-6 first set loss to win the next two sets 6-2 and 1-0, winning the third set tie-breaker 10-7. Dame picked up a 6-2, 6-2 number four singles match victory. Moran Miranda didn't lose a game in her 6-0, 6-0 number five singles match. And Karumuru claimed her first collegiate singles victory with her 6-4, 6-4 win in the number six singles match.
