Chicago, Ill. - Playing their first match in 17 days, the Illinois Tech men's lacrosse team found the goals hard to come by, scoring only twice in the first half, and getting shut out in the second half, losing to DePauw University 4-2 Saturday afternoon in a defensive battle at Stuart Field. The Scarlet Hawks dropped to 2-3 on the season, while the Tigers improved to 4-2.
The Scarlet Hawks had their third highest shot total on the season with 33, but their shot percentage of .061 and their shots on goal percentage of .394 were season-lows by a wide-margin.Â
On the plus-side, the Hawks limited the Tigers to just four goals, all in the first half. The 29 shots allowed to DePauw was the second lowest output by an opponent this season.
First Quarter (DePauw 2 - Illinois Tech 0)
DePauw opened the scoring just under three minutes into the opening quarter, with Jack Neff recording an unassisted tally for a 1-0 Tigers' lead. The Tigers would add on at the 8:27 mark when Beckett Tasker scored on a feed from Connor Gibson for a 2-0 lead.
Second Quarter (DePauw 2 - Illinois Tech 2)
The Scarlet Hawks mounted a comeback effort in the second quarter. Reed Tangeman got the Scarlet Hawks on the board just over three minutes in on an unassisted tally, cutting their deficit to 2-1. Late in the quarter, Jackson Brass scored unassisted at 4:32, pulling the Hawks even with the Tigers at 2-2. But just under a minute later, the Tigers would retake the lead, with Tasker scoring his second of the match at 3:35 for a 3-2 lead. Gibson would tack on another goal at 1:19 to re-establish the Tigers two-goal lead.Â

Neither team scored in the third quarter. DePauw had five shots. The Scarlet Hawks had nine shots.
