Kohler, Wis. - After a rugged non-conference schedule that featured several challenging opponents and a 3-9 record, the Illinois Tech men's tennis team was ready to build off that experience and open conference play on the right foot. The Scarlet Hawks did exactly that, as they defeated Lakeland University 9-0 Saturday afternoon on the road.The Scarlet Hawks improved to 4-9 overall, but more importantly started NACC play 1-0. The Muskies, playing in their first match of the season, open 0-1(0-1).
The Scarlet Hawks were one game away from sweeping all games and sets in both doubles and singles play. The Hawks only lost one game the entire match, in the number two singles match. Otherwise the Hawks swept every possible game in doubles, and all but one game in singles play.
Doubles Play (Illinois Tech 3 - Lakeland 0)
The Scarlet Hawks swept each doubles match 8-0, with wins by the number one team of Alann Torres and Davis Housman, the number two team of Jordan Lauer and Avneet Singh, and the number three team of Pol Dueso Guell.
Singles Play (Illinois Tech 6 - Lakeland 0)
Housman, Fawaz, Dueso Guell, Eduardo Lopez and Lauer each won their number one, number three, number four, number five and number six singles matches 6-0, 6-0, respectively. Torres won his number two singles match 6-1, 6-0.
