Chicago, Ill. - After opening the conference slate with a victory at Lakeland on Saturday, the Illinois Tech men's tennis team had a tougher opponent on their hands for Sunday's home match: the pre-season NACC favorite, the MSOE Raiders. The Scarlet Hawks responded to the challenge, taking down the Raiders 8-1 Sunday evening at the XS Tennis Center. The Scarlet Hawks improved to 2-0 in early conference season play, and to 5-9 overall. The Raiders fellto 1-1 in conference, and 5-6 overall.
The only loss for the Scarlet Hawks on this day was in the number one doubles match, which went to a tie-breaker. Otherwise the Hawks swept singles play 6-0, and went 2-1 in doubles competition.
Doubles Play (Illinois Tech 2 - MSOE 1)
The Scarlet Hawks went 2-1 in doubles play, with the number two team of Jordan Lauer and Avneet Singh winning 8-6, and the number three team of Pol Dueso Guell and Nabil Fawaz taking an 8-2 victory. In the number one doubles match, Davis Housman and Alann Torres fell in a tie-break, losing 7-8(0-7).
Singles Play (Illinois Tech 6 - MSOE 0)
Illinois Tech was able to take all six singles matches, despite several close calls. Housman and Fawaz each won their matches in straight sets, with Housman taking the number one match 6-2, 6-1 and Fawaz the number three match 6-3, 6-1. Dueso Guell also won in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6 with a 7-3 second set tie-breaker. The number two, five and six singles matching each had to go to three sets. Torres won his number two match 6-3, 4-6, 6-0, with a full third set. Eduardo Lopez claimed victory in the number five singles match, 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 with an 11-9 third set tie-breaker. Lastly, Lauer won his number six singles match 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 with a 10-6 third set tie-breaker.

The Scarlet Hawks will not play again until Tuesday, April 2nd, when they host Concordia Chicago at 8:00 PM at the XS Tennis Center in another conference matchup. This will also be senior day for the team.
