Men's Lacrosse Remains Unbeaten In NACC Play - Downs Edgewood 14-9

Verona, Wis. - A three goal lead seven-plus minutes into the opening quarter proved to be the jumping point the Illinois Tech men's lacrosse team needed to get ahead and stay ahead of Edgewood in the Scarlet Hawks 14-9 conference road victory Saturday afternoon. The Scarlet Hawks remained undefeated in NACC play at 4-0 and moved back over .500 overall on the season at 6-5. The Eagles dropped to 2-3 in conference play, and 5-9 overall.

Jackson Brass paced the Scarlet Hawks with six points on four goals and two assists. Reed Tangeman and Diego Sosa each had three goals as well for the Hawks. 

The game was fairly even statistically between the two teams, but the Scarlet Hawks proved to be more efficient with their shots on goal, converting on 14 of 23 chances for a 61% conversion rate. Edgewood on the other hand was 9 of 25 for a 36% conversion rate.

First Quarter (Illinois Tech 5 - Edgewood 3)
Brass opened the scoring in the game for the Scarlet Hawks with an unassisted tally at 12:54. Brass would again find the back of the net at 11:12 with a man-up goal on a feed from Alexander Stokrp. Sosa would extend the Hawks' lead to 3-0 on a feed from Micah Minookian at 7:41. Dylan Oas got the Eagles on the board at 6:31 with a man-up goal. Tangeman and Ty Dwyer would score unassisted goals 45 seconds apart to give the Hawks a 5-1 lead with 3:23 remaining. But Lake Rewey and Zach Thomas would each score unassisted tallies in the final minute of the quarter to cut the Edgewood deficit to 5-3. 

Second Quarter (Illinois Tech 4 - Edgewood 2)
Tangeman and Blake Stockwell of the Eagles would trade goals in the first six minutes of the second quarter. The Scarlet Hawks would outscore the Eagles 3-1 over the remainder of the quarter, with Yano Porter, Sosa and Dwyer scoring, with Simon Keddie providing the other tally for the Eagles.

Third Quarter (Illinois Tech 3 - Edgewood 1)
Illinois Tech would open the third quarter with another 3-0 run. Brass scored at 12:25 on a feed from Sosa. At 9:23 Porter scored on a helper from Brass. Tangeman added an unassisted tally at 5:45 for a 12-5 Illinois Tech lead. Nick Orosco scored the Eagles lone goal of the third quarter on a man-up opportunity at 2:59.

Fourth Quarter (Edgewood 3 - Illinois Tech 2)
Thomas would score his second of the match at 10:12 of the fourth quarter to pull the Eagles within 5 at 12-7. The teams would go scoreless over the next five minutes before Brass scored his fourth of the match unassisted at 5:13. Edgewood's Keddie and Rewey each scored their second goals of the match in the final three minutes, sandwiched around Sosa's third of the match for the Hawks at 2:28.

  • Reed Tangeman tallied 4 points on 3 goals and 1 assist, with 3 ground balls and 1 caused turnover.

  • Ground balls were almost even, with Edgewood recovering 40 to Illinois Tech's 39.
