Madison, Wis. - Heading into conference play, the Illinois Tech men's tennis team had a non-conference record of 3-9, and had lost seven of their last eight matches. But the Scarlet Hawks flipped a switch when NACC play started on March 23rd, and they haven't stopped since, taking down another conference foe in Edgewood College 9-0 Saturday morning in Madison. The Scarlet Hawks improved to 5-0 in conference play, and to 8-9 overall. The Eagles dropped to 1-4 in NACC play and 2-13 overall.
The Scarlet Hawks currently hold the number one seed for the NACC post-season tournament, with only two conference matches remaining.
Doubles Play (Illinois Tech 3 - Edgewood 0)
The Scarlet Hawks started off the match by claiming all three doubles contests. Davis Housman and Alann Torres claimed the number one doubles match 8-3. In the number two doubles match, Avneet Singh and Jordan Lauer won 8-2. Nabil Fawaz and Pol Dueso Guell made quick work in their number three doubles match, winning 8-0. The pairing are a perfect 5-0 in conference doubles play so far this season.
Singles Play (Illinois Tech 6 - Edgewood 0)
With a 3-0 match lead heading into singles competition, the Scarlet Hawks didn't take their foot off the gas pedal. The Hawks won each singles match in straight sets, losing only 7 games in the process. Torres won his number one singles match 6-1, 6-0, pushing his conference singles winning streak to five.; Housman was a 6-2, 6-0 winner in the number two match, extending his singles winning streak to six matches.; Fawaz continued his hot streak with another singles victory, his sixth in a row, as he won the number three match 6-0, 6-0. Dueso Guell followed with a 6-2, 6-1 win in his number four match. Eduardo Lopez won 6-1, 6-0 in his number five match, making it five singles wins in a row for the first-year player. Lauer completed the singles sweep for the Scarlet Hawks, taking his number six match 6-0, 6-0 for his fourth consecutive singles win.
