Men's Tennis Moves One Step Closer to Top Seed For NACC Tournament

Chicago, Ill. - The Illinois Tech men's tennis team completed a successful weekend of conference play on Sunday afternoon at the XS Tennis Center, when the Scarlet Hawks swept the visiting St. Norbert Green Knights 9-0. The Scarlet Hawks remained undefeated in NACC competition, improving their record to 6-0 and overall record to 9-9. The Green Knights fell to 7-11 overall and 2-3 in conference.

The Scarlet Hawks are on pace to secure the number one seed in the NACC postseason tournament, along with a first-round bye. The top six teams qualify for the tournament, and the top two seeds automatically get a bye until the semifinal round. The Hawks have one match remaining on the regular season schedule.

Doubles Play (Illinois Tech 3 - St. Norbert 0)
The Scarlet Hawks set themselves up for the match victory by winning all three doubles contests. Davis Housman and Alann Torres were victorious in the number one doubles match 8-4. In the number two doubles match, Avneet Singh and Jordan Lauer won 8-2. Nabil Fawaz and Pol Dueso Guell made it 3-0 in doubles play for Illinois Tech when they won their number three match 8-3. Fawaz and Dueso Guell extended their conference doubles winning streak to 6 matches.

Singles Play (Illinois Tech 6 - St. Norbert 0)
Working from a 3-0 lead, the Scarlet Hawks took care of business in the singles matches. The Hawks once again won each singles match in straight sets. Torres won his number one singles match 6-1, 1-0 before his opponent had to retire due to injury. Torres now has a six-game conference winning streak; Housman was a 6-1, 6-0 winner in the number two match, extending his singles winning streak to seven matches; Fawaz was a 6-1, 6-3 winner in the number three singles match, also his seventh in a row; Dueso Guell took the number four match 6-1, 6-3; Eduardo Lopez won 6-2, 6-3 in his number five match, making it six conference singles wins in a row for the first-year player. Lauer rounded out the singles sweep for the Scarlet Hawks, claiming his number six match 6-0, 6-2 for his fifth consecutive singles win.

The Scarlet Hawks host conference foe Wisconsin Lutheran on Sunday, April 21st in their final regular season match before the tournament. First serve is at 5:00 PM at the XS Tennis Center. It will also be Senior Night for the team.
