Men's Lacrosse Celebrates Senior Day With A NACC Win Over Marian

Chicago, Ill. - Reed Tangeman and Diego Sosa scored six points each, Yano Porter and Jackson Brass each tallied five points, and the Illinois Tech men's lacrosse team held off a late rally by Marian University to win 16-11 in front of a Senior Day crowd Saturday afternoon at Stuart Field. The Scarlet Hawks remained undefeated in NACC play at 3-0 in the early going, and evened their overall record to 5-5. The  Sabres dropped to 0-2 in conference play, and 1-5 overall.

Prior to the match, the team recognized their departing seniors as part of their Senior Day celebration: defenders Henry Rankin and Seamus Kinealy

First Quarter (Illinois Tech 7 - Marian 2)
Reed Tangeman got the Scarlet Hawks on the board first at the 12:17 mark of the first quarter on a feed from Diego Sosa. Marian would tie the score with a Serge Simard unassisted tally at 7:53, and then would take their only lead of the match at 5:27 when Erik Horman scored unassisted for a 2-1 Marian advantage. The Scarlet Hawks would score four times over the final 3:40 of the opening quarter, however, to retake the lead. Owen Huard and Jackson Brass had individual tallies, and Tangeman scored a pair of goals one minute apart to close out the first quarter.

Second Quarter (Illinois Tech 6 - Marian 2)
The Scarlet Hawks extended their lead in the second quarter with three consecutive goals. Yano Porter scored a man-up goal on a feed from Brass 39 seconds into the second frame. Sosa scored at 11:43 on a Porter helper, and Tangeman scored an unassisted man-up goal at 10:39 to give the Hawks an 8-2 lead. Trevor Stachowski would get one back for the Sabres unassisted at 7:11. Porter and Ty Dwyer scored one minute apart a couple minutes later to move the Hawks out front 10-3. The Sabres and Hawks would trade the last two goals of the quarter, as Simard and Brass each scored respectively for their teams, giving the Scarlet Hawks an 11-4 lead entering halftime. The Hawks outshot the Sabres 32-14 in the first half.

Third Quarter (Illinois Tech 4 - Marian 1)
Mason Cumicek gave Marian an early goal at 13:25 of the third quarter to open up the scoring in the second half, cutting the Sabres' deficit to 11-5. The Scarlet Hawks would score the next four goals of the quarter, with Jonathan Vitale scoring from Porter at 9:11, followed by a pair of Sosa goals and a solo tally by Porter from Alexander Stokrp with 33 seconds remaining for a 15-5 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Fourth Quarter (Marian 6 - Illinois Tech 1)
Down ten goals entering the fourth quarter, Marian mounted a furious comeback. Hayden Powless scored an unassisted goal for the Sabres just 32 seconds into the final frame. After Huard scored for Illinois Tech a minute later to get that goal back, Marian rattled off five unanswered goals in the game's final 10 minutes, with Powless adding another tally, Horman adding another, and Simard scoring three times. Marian outshot Illinois Tech 18-6 in the final frame, but it wasn't enough for Marian to overcome the ten goal deficit they faced after three quarters.
